Miss USA resignations: CW ‘evaluating’ relationship with pageants ahead of live ceremonies

Following The CW’s recent announcement of a three-year contract extension to broadcast the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants, the network is now reevaluating its partnership in light of recent events.

“The CW Network is reassessing its relationship with both pageants in light of recent developments,” the network stated on Monday.

In late April, The CW had revealed plans to broadcast the 42nd Miss Teen USA pageant on August 1st and the 73rd Miss USA pageant on August 4th. However, following the resignations of Miss USA Noelia Voigt and Miss Teen USA UmaSofia Srivastava last week, The CW is reconsidering its involvement.

Voigt cited concerns about her mental health as the reason for her resignation in a statement posted on social media on May 6th. Two days later, Srivastava announced her decision to relinquish her title, stating that her personal values no longer aligned with the direction of the organization.

Claudia Engelhardt, a former Miss USA social media director who also resigned last week, expressed that the resignations of Voigt and Srivastava were a direct response to the management of the Miss USA brand. She stated, “They are the ones that are responsible for Noelia and Uma’s mental health decline. And it was documented that they knew it and they did nothing about it.”

In a statement provided to USA TODAY on Wednesday, Miss USA CEO and President Laylah Rose emphasized the organization’s commitment to celebrating and empowering women. Rose addressed the recent allegations, stating, “All along, my personal goal as the head of this organization has been to inspire women to always create new dreams, have the courage to explore it all, and continue to preserve integrity along the way. I hold myself to these same high standards and I take these allegations seriously. Please be assured that the well-being of all individuals associated with Miss USA is my top priority.”
