Courteney Cox recreates her Bruce Springsteen ‘Dancing in the Dark’ dance on TikTok

In a playful nod to her past, the 59-year-old “Friends” star recently took to TikTok to recreate her iconic dance from Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” music video. Joining a TikTok trend where young users invite their moms to dance like they did in the 1980s, Cox showcased her expertise in the era’s moves.

“With a playful caption of ‘Asking my mom how she danced in the 80’s,’ Cox shared the clip, donning a Springsteen shirt under her sweatshirt and emulating her moves from the 1984 video,” she wrote over the clip.

In her TikTok caption, Cox humorously dubbed the performance “1980’s dancing … in the dark.”

Long before her acclaimed role on “Friends,” Cox starred in the Brian De Palma-directed music video as a fervent fan pulled onstage by Springsteen during a concert, sharing a dance with him before an ecstatic crowd.

Reflecting on her experience during a 2022 interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” the “Scream” star admitted feeling “a little embarrassed” watching the video today. She quipped, “Did you see my dance? It was pathetic. I’m not a bad dancer, but that was horrible. I was so nervous.”

Cox confessed to feeling out of her element during the audition process, recalling her surprise at being cast over professional dancers. “I think that’s what they wanted: a fan that just couldn’t believe it,” she explained to Stern.

In a 2017 interview on “Off Camera with Sam Jones,” Cox revealed that prior to the video, her acting credits were limited to a commercial and a soap opera episode. Initially hesitant to be the one dancing with Springsteen, the role ultimately proved instrumental in kickstarting her career.

Reflecting on the impact of the video, Cox remarked, “I spent a lot of time talking about what Bruce Springsteen was really like after that video. It got me in the door to so many places.”
